About
Ever since I can remember , I’ve been drawn to all things originating from the United States of America . Growing up in the 70s and 80s , it started with an obsession with imported comic books , then imported TV shows and NFL matches , Western movies and eventually American rock music , from AOR to hair metal to thrash . In the last decade or so , this has changed to an increasing interest in the contemporary country music scene .
I feel that country music is where you now find the best singers , songwriters , performers and personalities that you once found in rock music . Country can be fun , serious , profound and ridiculous all at the same time , but is always interesting , is constantly evolving and has , at its best , a refreshing honesty to it . The modern stars of the genre are also starting to make inroads in Britain where , not so long ago , being a country music fan was something you generally kept secret . Exciting times !
In my blog , I write about mostly current American country music with the occasional dip into its rich history ( as I learn more about it ) – all from the perspective of someone living in the North of England . Going forward , I may write the occasional piece about other topics related to country or Americana in general . I try to post at least one written piece a week as well as a song or video . I apologise and take responsibility for all factual inaccuracies and strange opinions .
Thanks for reading .
I haven’t been to the USA in nearly 30 years .
