There weren’t many surprises among the awards at the 50th Academy of Country Music show last weekend , although maybe Lee Brice getting Single Record of the Year was one . Also , I’m not too familiar with Cole Swindell and isn’t it about time country music stops trying to shoehorn Taylor Swift into every event ? There were plenty of highlights among the performances : Eric Church/Keith Urban , Martina McBride , Alan Jackson , George Strait , Miranda etc. The main event for me , though , was the return of Brooks & Dunn ( even if I would have picked a lot of songs over this one ) . A great performance and vocal – surely they can’t leave it with just the Vegas run ?
A good show all round with the ACMs improving , like the CMAs , over the last couple of years and getting the old/new balance just about right .
